Goals from Nemanja Vidic, Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov allowed the English, European and world champions move within five points of Premier League leader Liverpool.
United now has 41 points with 19 played games, while Chelsea remains second, chasing Liverpool, which has 46 points from 21 games.
